Hello readers,

I thought I’d pop my head in here and give you an update on what’s going on with the house et al. And because I love posting pictures of our cat, here she is, Peach, settling in, slowly but surely.

So the last couple of weeks have been interesting if nothing else. We painted the upstairs bedroom.

The colour of the room turned out great and it goes with our new bedsheets as demonstrated by Peach when she claimed my spot of the bed there above. The colour is called Celery and it’s by Sherwin Williams. We love it because it’s a nice cool colour without getting depressing which works great for settling down before bed.

The only complaint, however, was when we took the crappy stick to nothing green tape off the walls, it took the paint off all the way down to the drywall with it. Don’t want to sound like we’re blaming anyone, but to say it wasn’t upsetting would be a lie. So we need to mud it, sand it and repaint it. This still isn’t done, however, we have put together all our furniture for the bedroom with the exception of the drawers that will hang out under the bed. So go team.

All of the furniture in the downstairs is put together… however, I’m still too ashamed of the mess to feel comfortable posting pictures. So on that point, I promise I will put up pictures of the “house tour” once it is cleaned up a little.

Outside that it’s been a work in progress just moving everything in and upstairs. I’m happy to say that our freezers are both in and one of them is plugged in and very full. We need to clean the other and plug that in and clean it up a little so we can start freezing food for quick lunches, etc. That will also potentially make it into the blog 🙂 So many plans.

I’m not going to lie to you, every time I think to myself “I have to go blog” I follow it up with “but there’s so much work to do” so I’m going to try to be better to carve out some time. I’ve almost got my closet organization post ready to go too so that’s something to look forward to.

And I’m off for now, so much to do, so little time.

Update March 31

Well hello there,

So it’s been about a week since my last post, not that I haven’t been thinking about you. I thought I’d give you a quick update and a tease of what’s been happening.

We got possession of our house on Monday and needless to say things have been insane since then. But thankfully we started painting yesterday, so here’s a sneak peak of the living room before and after:

The colour is provincial peach. That’s just a single coat in the glow of our crappy lighting so just imagine what it’ll look like when we’re done and in daylight/better lighting.

Other things I’m working on: As I make my way through our laundry, I’ve been putting together a closet organization post, so once that’s up I will link it (provided I remember, I may forget). And I’m going to do more of these before and after photos from the house, cause I’m just so dang excited about the whole thing. Also, my adventures in creating printables continue. I have a bunch to post, but I’m going to organize my thoughts a little and post them in a way that makes sense for you all.

Until next time!

House Progress

Hi all,

So I’ve been struggling with writing this post. I’ve seriously had it in my drafts for 2 weeks. Not because I’m not sure whether or not I should write it or even because I’m not sure what to write, because this is such a huge deal in my life. Also I kind of wanted to wait until the whole thing was done, but then I thought to myself, you’ll probably post a bunch of decorating posts anyways, so get on with it.

Oh and for those of you new to wordpress, like myself, I got super giddy, because did you know that when you post photos it automatically puts them into beautiful collages for you? That was another reason it took me forever, I thought I had to do it myself via some random apps, so I was playing with those for a few days. The wordpress version works way better though and allows me to go on blogging. Moving on.

So, I wasn’t going to include builder information, however, our builder is awesome, and some of my photos include names and descriptions of the materials and whatnot, so let’s hear it for Brookfield Residential. A truly great builder. If you choose to check them out and end up buying, they do have a referral program so message me and I’ll send you my full name so you can let them know I sent you.

Now, before I proceed, please note that all opinions are my own and don’t represent those of Brookfield Residential. If I missed anything, I’M SORRY!! and please let me know if I need to include anything else to make this totally an okay post.

So let’s start with our colours. Mountain Man helped, because I lucked out and he likes to be involved in the process from start to finish and got a little giddy at the prospect of selecting colours.

Alright, so let’s start from left to right and top to bottom, our backsplash, tile and counter top in image 1, hardwood and carpet in image 2 and our counters in the bathrooms and cabinets in image 3.

Oh my, look at that Alberta sky. Hands down one of my favourite things about living out here. Anyway, this is over the stretch of a few months, this whole thing took about 11 months from the time that we walked into the sale centre to the time that we take keys next week. We are the corner unit, hence the pictures of the corner unit. Our house is a townhouse, but it’s 1243 sq. ft. and while we don’t have a backyard and very little basement, we do have a double garage and a front pad for our non-existent BBQ. We’ll get one, just you wait.

This was from our cabinet walkthrough. Top left is the living room (all those windows ♥), top right is our front door, under that is the “dining area” but we liked the way the showhome was set up which had a desk space there and allowed the living room to be more open and also use the eating bar which you can’t really see in this photo. Bottom right is the kitchen sans appliance (and flooring in case you haven’t put that together yet) also from where I took the photo is where the dining table will go, and last but not least, bottom left is the railing and our weird flex space above the door. Now a little about that space, we had originally played around with the idea that a fishtank would look amazing there, okay, it would look amazing there, however, at 1000lbs. we decided, maybe not? We’re totally doing a marvel theme down here though, so maybe some nice Marvel wall art? We’ll see.

Okay, here we have the master bedroom, master bath and the larger of the small bedrooms. Nothing too exciting, plus you can’t really tell what size they are on account of how dark it is and there’s nothing in them. We do have another smaller bedroom, that’ll house my craft stuff.

Now this was just last week during our pre-occupancy walkthrough. You’ll notice some tape is stuck to our walls and whatnot, that was for any deficiencies, mostly paint. We got them to paint the house white, it made the most sense with our colour scheme and also to allow us to do accent walls once we move in, however, white shows imperfections like whoa. Most of these photos showcase our beautiful flooring, I mean, look at that tile!!

Boring but necessary carpet.

And again to the downstairs. Sorry about the dark photos, there’s just so much natural light coming in it’s hard for me to photograph on my phone. And I included a photo of the countertop and backsplash. It’s funny, because Mountain Man loved the backsplash so much that the whole monochromatic look emerged from it. We love how it turned out though.

Needless to say, I can’t wait to get all our IKEA furniture in there, paint the accent walls and build all the furniture. And live in it of course. So awesome, and so so excited. So much so, I’m pretty sure I’m annoying everyone in my life. I don’t care though.

Home Binder

So I came across an amazing blog called Just a Girl and Her Blog. The creator’s name is Abby and I wish I had her organizing prowess. She has inspired me to create a Home Binder. I was literally laying in bed the other night and thought to myself, “what if I die and Aaron needs to get at my accounts”. As such it has caused me to go a little nutty in the making my own printables area, and I wanted to share a few that I’ve completed so far, because while there are some great free printables out there, I really love the ability to make my own. As simple or as complicated as my crazy brain needs them to be.

I will come back and edit this post from time to time as I get pretty pictures of the printables in action as well as when I create new pages to add. I will also at some point create a recipe binder, because there’s nothing quite like being able to have a customer recipe book.

Password Cheat Sheet: Do you have that problem where you don’t remember which email/password you used for a specific website? Or the website has some weird rules about how their passwords have to be structured? I came across this when I had to think of new passwords for this blog and the corresponding email address. And I totally had a request for this almost as soon as I created it from a co-worker. Mission accomplished.

Monthly Calendar 2016: Surprise! I’m an Albertan. Why do I bring that up here? Well, because of the holidays included in this printable. They are only Alberta based because that’s where I am. Want more? Send me a message and I’ll gladly accommodate.

General List: This is really more of a page for notes. I figure it might come in handy as I’m pondering things…

Cleaning Schedule: Now, I work my part time job (oh yeah, I work 2 jobs, that hasn’t come up here yet) on Thursdays and Friday and while I would love to think that my other half would do these chores, the reality is that he needs me to ride his coattails a little bit to make it a reality. So my version of the cleaning schedule is different, because, well I’m not home to do anything Thursday and Friday.

Birthdays: Okay, so I am usually pretty good at keeping these in my phone but I want them on my calendar so I can see them coming up rather than being reminded day of.

Account Information: And last but certainly not least is the Account information. It’s pretty generic depending on how many accounts you have, and formatted to Canada with Transit, Institution and Account Numbers.

Family Address Book: Keep all your important info together for family contacts. Ideal for planning a family event or if you enjoy mailing out cards for birthdays, or anything really.

That’s all I have ready to go up for now, and I really don’t want to put off this post any longer, so those who view, please enjoy.

Richard Castle Book Review

Are you a fan of ABC’s “Castle”? Did you know that there is a book series that accompanies the show by none other than Richard Castle himself (well a ghost writer anyway) following the exploits of Nikki Heat?

Well I did. Okay, to be fair I was working in a book store when the show started and stumbled upon the series while putting away books. I mean, as a nerd/geek how could I not be drawn to Nathan Fillion’s face on the back of the book, right?

As with most series, the first book “Heat Wave”, was kind of painful. I attribute this to the author find their characters’ voice as well as to the reader getting familiar with it. I was impressed, however, as the characters from the show are very clearly present in the book. I mean you’ve got everyone there, from Ryan and Esposito to Lanie portrayed as Raley and Ochoa (affectionately nicknamed “Roach”) and Lauren respectively.

Of course Kate is Nikki and Rick is Jameson Rook.

By all rights, not the greatest literary books ever written, but I’ll tell you a secret. I don’t really care about those books. I take a lot of joy out of books like these, where they’re fun, light, and they don’t make me think too much about the problems of the world. I find that kind of crap depressing, and reading is about relaxing and being fun for me. And this book delivered just that. It was the same as when I read the Harry Potter books, reading makes you want to watch and watching makes you want to read. Anyone else ever have that experience? Then you know exactly what I mean.

So in the end if you’re looking for a serious read, these books are not for you. If you like light, fluffy and fun, then you’re in the right place. Oh and it helps if you like crime drama onscreen or off as well.

Other books in the series are:

2. Naked Heat

3. Heat Rises

4. Frozen Heat

5. Deadly Heat

6. Raging Heat

7. Driving Heat

My First Post

Alright, let’s get started. While doing my research on how to start a blog, I read somewhere that you should dedicate about an hour to two hours to each post. I’m not going to do that for this one, if for no other reason than the fact that I’m not really sure where to start. So I’ll just start blabbering about my life, cause that seems like the thing to do. So my boyfriend and I… I’m going to refer to him here as mountain man, more on that later. Anyhow, we bought a house last year. It’s in the process of being built. It’s a townhouse, not a house, house, but for a starter home it’s perfect for us. The most exciting part is that our possession is about 18 days away. So really, I can’t do much crafting or anything at this point, cause if it’s not in boxes, it’s buried behind some. Not to mention setup will be a nightmare… note to self, create a blog page for “home” as I will totally put up pictures of my house. Oh my this is getting ranty.

So, once we move, and paint and build all our wonderful IKEA furniture (don’t judge), I have every intention of just throwing all my crazy out into the world. I have this horrible itch to knit. It’s so bad, that I totally found fingering yarn the other night and started a pair of socks. And I totally want to bake like crazy.

To give you some background, we are currently living with my parents. We don’t share the kitchen well, not to mention we’re basically stuck in a single bedroom with all our stuff. To say that it’s cramped is a painful understatement. There’s stuff everywhere. And I mean everywhere. So I can’t wait to be able to spread out a little bit and be able to do kitchen activities.

Mountain man and I are one of those crazy couples that actually enjoy spending time together. Not in the let’s-hold-hands-and-never-let-go-gazing-into-each-other’s-eyes kind of way, but in a hanging out in the same room while we do our own thing. So our townhouse has an open floorplan. My favourite part about it? You can be cooking and watch TV which is in the living room. I have a TV addiction, let’s not talk about it (although, we probably will as I’m sure it’ll come up somewhere around here). And don’t worry, I will add photos of said house sometime in the near future. See? Reasons I want/need a blog. Share things. Which is odd because I am not much of a facebook user. I think my last post was over 2 years ago… go figure.

But I digress… oh wait, there’s not much point to this post. Well, I think now is as good a time as any to sign off, we’ll see what kind of shenanigans I can get up to with the wordpress app, directly attached to my photo taking device (iPhone). Stay tuned.

And thanks for reading!

P.S. I think I managed to attach a picture of the house under construction. Bear with me, it’s my first day.
